FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS / CAREER PATHWAYS

Academic Summer Camps career pathways frequently asked questions
What Career Pathways are available at Academic Summer?

There are four specialist career pathways to choose from: Get Ready for Medicine, Get Ready for Engineering, Get Ready for Entrepreneurship and Get Ready for Future Gen Study. Each specialist programme is two intensive weeks of intensive learning in the heart of London, combining subject knowledge, real-world visits and workshops, and the Be a Leader programme. Every student leaves with two CPD qualifications for their CV / motivation letter and university application.

My child's English is already very strong and they study at an IB school — what can Career Pathways offer them?

Career Pathways is designed exactly for ambitious and high-achieving students like this. With 40 hours of specialist learning per week, the programme goes far beyond a standard summer school. Students work at a challenging level carrying out research projects, developing their presentation skills, taking part in workshops, pitching business plans or competing in engineering design challenges. Students also develop the leadership, communication and critical thinking skills that IB schools value highly. In a world where AI can write the essay, it is the students who can think, lead and communicate with confidence who stand out and that is exactly what we build.

What do students receive from their career pathway programme?

Every Career Pathways student leaves with two CPD (Continuing Professional Development) qualifications — one for their specialist pathway and one for Be a Leader. CPD is internationally recognised professional development, valued by universities and employers worldwide. The qualifications are awarded with a certificate and are an addition to a CV or university application, demonstrating ambition, specialist knowledge and leadership development. Students will also get a report from their teachers and a Academic Summer certificate. Medical students will also receive an Emergency First Aid Certificate. We offer more and the programme are good value and good quality.

My teenager does not yet know what they want to study — which pathway would you suggest?

Future Gen Study is the perfect starting point. It is a modern, skills-based academic preparation course that builds critical thinking, essay writing, presentation skills, AI literacy and study confidence without requiring a specific career focus. It is ideal for students preparing for A Levels, IB, university or any academic environment where English is the language of instruction. If your child has a general interest in business or innovation but no specific direction yet, Entrepreneurship is also a great choice. Contact our admissions team and we will help you decide: info@academiccamp.co.uk

Is Career Pathways suitable for native English speakers or local UK students?

Yes. Career Pathways is about specialist subject knowledge, professional development and leadership as well as developing your academic English language skills. The minimum level is B2 but many students are at C1 or above, including native speakers. The programme is equally valuable for a native English speaker wanting to explore Medicine or Engineering as it is for an international student with strong English. The diverse international cohort is itself part of the experience — building a global network and developing the cross-cultural communication skills that universities and employers look for.

My teenager is interested in Maths and Science — which Career Pathway would you recommend?

Get Ready for Engineering is the natural fit for students who love Maths and Science. The programme builds core knowledge across civil, mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering, with Maths and Physics concepts applied to real engineering challenges. Students also take part in the Da Vinci Competition which is a team design challenge that develops problem-solving, creativity and higher-order thinking. For students with a strong interest in Biology and Chemistry who are drawn to a caring profession, Get Ready for Medicine includes biology and chemistry practicals, heart and lung dissections, a full day clinical workshop with a doctor and a visit to a top university.

What does Get Ready for Entrepreneurship actually involve — is it just business theory?

No it is such an exciting option. Entrepreneurship at Academic Summer is about creativity, innovation and making things happen. Students develop their own ideas, build a personal brand, learn how to market a product, manage a budget and understand finance and then pitch their business plan Dragon's Den style to a panel of experts. There are visits to a real company and a top university, workshops with business experts, and sessions on creativity, leadership and corporate responsibility. It is the perfect pathway for students who are curious, creative and full of ideas whether they dream of starting their own business, working in marketing, or simply want to develop the entrepreneurial mindset that every industry values today.
